Cap and Trade (H.R.2454)

The House narrowly approved landmark climate change legislation H.R.2454 on June 26. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. The measure aims to cap greenhouse-gas emissions at 17 percent of 2005 levels by 2020 and by about 80 percent by 2050, creating a market for companies to buy and sell the right to emit carbon dioxide and other gases (a "cap-and-trade" system). The measure would also create a new renewable electricity standard and establish new national building codes. (H.R.2454)

Supporters say the bill, H.R.2454, would create jobs, reduce America's dependence on foreign oil and reduce greenhouse gases - which some argue is the leading compound linked to global warming. Opponents are calling the bill, H.R.2454, an energy tax that could slow the economy. Many lawmakers representing farm states are also concerned that the measure would put a disproportionate burden on farmers.

Guys this is it - if this passes, we are on our way into a DEEP DEPRESSION that we may not recover from. NO JOKE!! The house passed H.R.2454 WITHOUT EVEN READING IT on Friday 6/26/09. H.R.2454 will affect your home values and you won't be able to sell your home unless it meets certain strict environmental standards - appraisers will have to take classes to learn how to appraise homes based upon their energy efficiency - and that's just ONE of the HUNDREDS of things that will personally affect your life if H.R.2454 passes in the Senate. Not to mention skyrocketing electric bills, higher gas prices, groceries - everything you touch will be taxed (think $4/gallon was bad last summer? That was just a small taste of what is coming with this bill). Not to mention H.R.2454 will hurt businesses who are already struggling, the list goes on and on - H.R.2454 is over 1,000 pages of regulations, I'm trying to give some cliff notes.

It's not fun to lose. Unfortunately, that's what happened when the U.S.House passed the National Energy Tax (H.R.2454) on Friday night by a vote of 219-212.

But, losing forces us to take a hard look at where we are, so we can be ready for the next stage of this fight in the U.S. Senate. Today,we face 3 truths:
One - people are now paying attention, they're angry, and they want to act.
Two - we need more people, in your state, on our side.
Three - the time to begin recruiting is today.

The 219-212 vote was much closer than Speaker Pelosi expected, and 44 Democrats bucked their party and voted no against H.R.2454. This is a testament to your efforts, and now we must do it again in the Senate. Our vehicle is the "Stop the Energy Tax" campaign, which will allow us to reach, educate, and activate more people to make their voices heard in Washington. Right now over 150,000 people have joined us. We must now double that forthe Senate fight. If every petition signer recruits just one person, we'll hit our goal of 300,000. Please take a moment and ask one person to sign the
Stop the Energy Tax petition.

Senators are on the fence, and they can be pushed over the edge if enough of us are willing to act. Thank you for recruiting one person today.
